A little bird told me

We hear that people are worried about Livemocha and that everything that they know and love about us is going away.

Don’t worry. We’re not going anywhere.

Are things changing at Livemocha? Yep! In the very best of ways.

We are excited to switch over to the new site, but we won’t do it until we are good and ready to have you join us.

When will we make the switch?

Not for several months.

Rest assured that that nothing will be changing until then. As we speak, we are making fantastic new features and improvements for the new Livemocha, and are working hard to make sure that your language learning experience is as effective and fun as you want it to be.

When things do change, everything that you know and love will be there.

Coming soon – or, what you don’t see in the beta.

If you’ve been to the beta, you may have seen that a lot of the things you like aren’t there… yet. The beta is a work in progress. We are adding new features, updates, languages, and functions on a daily basis. Here is a short list of what to expect.

  • Contact with native speakers

A lot of people have expressed concern that the new Livemocha doesn’t have contact with native speakers. That’s the best part of Livemocha! We would never take that away. We have, however, restructured the learning experience so that the exchanges that learners have with native speakers are more productive.

  • Community feedback

This has been a major concern within the community, and we want you to know that these are our favorite parts too.

We will not be moving anyone over to the new site until everybody in the community will be able to leave comments on others’ exercises – and learners will have the ability to choose if they want to get a community a rating, or get community comments, or an expert review.

  • Language exchange with native speakers

As part of our efforts to make a more effective learning experience, language exchange with native speakers is built into each and every lesson so that you can always get real-life practice. Livemocha is not a text book. It is real live people and real live language.

  • Connections

In the new Livemocha, you will be able to find practice partners and build connections to help each other learn. You’ll be able to find new connections and reconnect with old ones, and get real practice with native speakers.

If you’d like to help us build this new and improved friends experience, fill out this survey and make your voice heard!

  • What about language courses?

We will have new, up-to-date, best-in-class courses, including our Foundations series, which will bring learners from beginner to advanced in over 8 languages.

While some things are changing, the things that you like the most about Livemocha are staying the same.
