Two members of the legendary Motown group The Temptations have died. Otis “Damon” Harris on Monday, February 18th, and Richard Street this Wednesday. Both singers brought the group to grammy gold with songs like Papa Was A Rolling Stone and Masterpiece. Both men joined the group in 1971. Harris left in 1975 and Street left in 1993.

As I write this post I am thrown into a bout of nostalgia. I grew up with this stuff; I’ve sung the words and doo wopped along with the beat, even played some of the tunes in the school band (I was a tenor sax player.) Join me in a spin around the room to the harmonic treat with a soul beat – ladies and gentlemen, The Temptations.

Here’s Papa was a rolling stone.

In another, poorer quality video, announcer Mr. Nostalgia give an interesting little history of Harris’ time with the Temptations before showing a great old video of the same song from the classic music-television show Soul Train.

I love this version of My Girl not because of Whoopie (love her too) but because of the relaxed feeling and the more-than-smoothe live performance.

Some great bands have covered The Temptations. Here’s The Rolling Stones with ‘Ain’t too proud to beg’

Happy Saturday! I hope you enjoyed the music.
