You know when you get song stuck in your head and the only way to get rid of it is to share it with someone?
Consider this a gift from me to you.
Actually, this week’s Saturday Morning Music features some pretty darn good music that is uniquely American. I will not pretend to be an aficionado, but I truly appreciate some of what comes out of this genre. With deep roots in the American South and a range of styles that I will not attempt to represent here, I’m happy to share just a taste of it with you today.
And now for the song that’s been bouncing around in my head all week. It got there because it’s in one of my daughter’s favorite movies (that we watch a lot). It’s had a good run, but it’s time for this song to leave the comfort of my saturated mind and go out into the world.
Here’s Dolly Parton with He’s Gonna Marry Me
One of the most popular soundtracks that I remember that featured country music was from the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou. With it’s mix of bluegrass, folk, and downright amazing musicianship, I love this soundtrack and am thrilled to share it with you. Here is a live performance for the Grammy Awards that has a good representation of the blend of music that’s on the record.
Here’s Allison Krauss and Union Station again with Dust Bowl Children (If you’re not familiar with ‘The Dust Bowl’ click the link for a little bit of American history.)
I have to be honest when I tell you that the only reason I know about this next artist is because he’s one of the four hosts of the TV show The Voice. Here’s a sweet little ditty by Blake Shelton - Honey Bee
OK, y’all. Have a happy Saturday.
