It’s getting cold in Seattle. The leaves are turning crimson red and we’re succumbing to the fact that our lovely, but abbreviated summer is over. Sweaters are being donned and boots dug out of the back of the closet. This Saturday morning I want to get up and move. I want to shake off the the cold and the smell of the heater being turned on for the first time in months. What can I listen to this chilly Saturday morning while clutching my hot cup of coffee? Rodrigo y Gabriela.
With roots in heavy metal and heavily influenced by world music including a heavy dose of flamenco, Rodrigo y Gabriela gave up on their Mexico City metal band in 1999 and headed to Ireland, where they played on the streets, wowed the crowds, and landed a record deal. Thirteen years later, the duo has millions of fans around the world and can even make my mother’s head bang, just a bit.

I chose this first piece because it’s amazing to listen to and gorgeous to watch. Art in action.

And now for some more classical flamenco guitar.
