This week for the Summer Video Challenge we have a fantastic display of proficiency amongst our challenge contributors. But before we get to the videos, there have been a couple of questions about the challenge that I thought might help everyone.
Is it too late to send in my three videos?
NO! As long as you send in 3, 1-5 minute videos demonstrating your language skills, sharing your practice tips, or singing a son, you will be eligible for the Gold Key.
When will I get my Gold Key?
Gold Keys redemption codes will be sent via email after the challenge is over. You can expect to get your Gold Key redemption code by September 15th, 2012.
The point of the challenge is to document and demonstrate YOUR language skills. We’ve received a lot of great music videos and movie clips, but these, we’re sorry to say, will not qualify as challenge submissions. Turn the camera on yourself, or dub over some pictures you’ve taken or walk around your house and practice your vocabulary, but make it about YOUR target language.
Ok, on with this week’s videos!
First up, we have Heather, who was features in our Saturday Morning Music post last week singing Girl From Ipanemain Portuguese, with a, excerpt from a Spanish song called Que dificil es hablar el español.
Next we have Nick who not only did his entire video in Arabic, he also provided the full script in Arabic so those of you who have that as your target language can follow along.
Finally, we have Sara with a Serbian nursery rhyme, Eci-peci-pec.
This week’s honorable mention comes to you in a cuteness award – J. Eric Davey practices Spanish with his 4 year old, Stella.
Here’s a challenge on a challenge:
If you’ve already submitted a video or two, switch it up a bit!
- Find a joke or a nursery rhyme or a tongue twister in your target language and share it with us.
- Find a good comic strip and translate the words and the meaning.
- Find some idiomatic phrases that parallel some in your own language and translate them word for word… they’re usually not direct translations and can be pretty funny!
Above all, have fun! Practice! Keep it up!!
