Livemocha Named Finalist in 2012 Technology Impact Awards

We are very happy to announce that Livemocha has been named one of only 3 finalists in the Education category of the 2012 Technology Impact Awards. The Technology Impact Awards are a program put on by the Washington Technology Industry Association and Seattle Business Magazine to recognize “companies and individuals that are creating or using information technology in important and or innovative ways to significantly improve a company or industry’s business performance and or to provide an important public benefit.” The winners will be announced on September 25, 2012.

I just sent you and support@livemocha.com a long list of pornographic and sex-geared profiles of Livemocha abusers, several of which were created in the last week or two since our last exchange. I don’t believe the new moderation system is working. Please do not consider the issue a closed case, as it is far from solved.

  you for your continued concern about the issue you mention. Since your
  complaint came in only 90 minutes ago, the profiles have all been removed. Our
  recently implemented system has drastically reduced abuse but, as this kind of
  filtering requires a human touch, it is also subject to human error and
  sometimes things can slip through the cracks. We are confident about this
  system, though, as evidenced by the quick response to both the support request
  and the majority of images that are flagged. As we move forward, we will
  of course find places with room for improvement which is why we have a team
  devoted to continuously monitoring and improving the system.
