Livemocha named in the 2012 AlwaysOn Global 250 Top Private Companies

We are very excited to announce that Livemocha has been named one of the AlwaysOn Global 250 Top Private Companies for 2012. This award is based on five criteria: “innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value, and media buzz”, and is given to companies that are considered to be “emerging innovators… (and that) provide vital technology products to sophisticated consumer and business users as well as opening up huge value-creation opportunities for their investors.”

AlwaysOn said of their selected award winners, “These companies represent leadership in the global innovation community and are developing vital, forward-thinking software and hardware solutions and technologies.” We are thrilled to be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with companies like Twitter, Pinterest, Living Social, Gilt Group, and more, who also received this year’s award.

Why were all my comments from the other day removed? I am trying to express a serious concern of the community for the lack of action of Livemocha staff on dealing with abusive users and the constant posting of pornography and the impressively inept moderation of the site (in a million dollars website, one guy, Nicholas, is tasked with the entire support and moderation).

I can post a series of profiles sporting explicitly pornographic images and profiles geared for sex that I have repeatedly reported, and yet have stayed there for a week if not month. But you will erase my comment and use that as an excuse to delete my entire complaint.

How can Livemocha receive an award when it clearly refuses to address the most urgent concerns of the community? In just a month, the petition for Livemocha to moderate profile pictures before they are published has climbed to the top 10 most voted petitions in 4 years, but Livemocha has done NOTHING about it:

    instead of putting a filter on profiles to stop showing bad images you have erased a post which is for you and against them?If you dont move fast in the near future Livemocha will no longer be a language learning site but a porn site.

And many more. How is it possible that all these legitimate and sincere concerns shared from honest users of Livemocha from all corners of the world are purposely ignored? Why do I say purposely: before this petition reached the Top 20 petitions of all time, the user forums used to randomly show 3 petitions from the Top 20 ones in its cover page. As soon as this petition made it to the Top 20, Livemocha stopped doing this, and instead only showing the Top 3 petitions (which are, by the way, absolutely irrelevant since they were written 3-4 years ago and already dealt with). So all actions Livemocha actually takes, are against the concerns of the community!

It is as if Livemocha would be bent on protecting abusers and not care at all about people who use the website for virtual sex -- perhaps they think it is good to get more users by using sex as an attraction. I personally know many sincere and honest users who have left this website forever because of such apathetic behavior of Livemocha staff. So honest users leave and abusers grow. And to maximize earnings, Livemocha refuses to hire moderators.
